VELVA - Members of North Dakota's American Legion District 6 and their auxiliary units will gather for their annual fall district meeting on Saturday, Oct. 3. The event will be hosted at the Joseph I Weller Post 39, located at 201 Main St. N., Velva.
District 6 includes Burke, Renville, Bottineau, Ward, McHenry and western McLean counties.
The day's schedule will begin with registration and a social hour at 11 a.m. Lunch will be available for $10 at noon. The joint district meeting starts at 1 p.m.
Following the conclusion of the joint session, the American Legion Auxiliary will transition across the street, south of the Legion Hall, to continue its session at the Senior Citizen Center, located at 122 Main St. N., Velva.
District 6 Commander Kathryn White Bear of White Shield, Young Hawk/Bear Post 253, will preside over the session. Department Commander Jason Anderson of Scranton, Lindberg Post #151, will be in attendance.
The business meeting will feature updates on core legion programming. Members will receive reports on the upcoming district oratorical contest, Children and Youth, as well as the recent North Dakota Boys State session, which took place this past June at the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton.
Additionally, attendees will review department and national membership campaign strategies designed to maintain the organization's position as the nation’s largest veterans’ group.
Chartered by Congress in 1919, The American Legion is a patriotic, mutual-help, wartime veterans' organization dedicated to serving veterans, their families and local communities. The North Dakota Department encompasses more than 10,000 Legionnaires, 6,000 Auxiliary members and 1,000 Sons of the American Legion across 201 communities, with department headquarters operating out of West Fargo.
