WASHINGTON - Funding to extend the northbound left-turn lane on U.S. Highway 83 at Minot Air Force Base has been awarded to the North Dakota Department of Transportation, according to the North Dakota congressional delegation.
U.S. Sens. John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer and Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak on Monday, Sept. 21, announced the award of $1.04 million through the Defense Community Infrastructure Program to support transportation improvements at Minot Air Force Base. The funding will support the $1.3 million project to improve access to the base.
In May, the delegation sent a letter to the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation in support of the project, which will extend the northbound left-turn lane on U.S. Highway 83 to better accommodate traffic entering Minot AFB and improve safety and reliability along the route.
"Minot Air Force Base plays a critical role in our national defense, and reliable infrastructure is essential to supporting its missions," said the delegation in a joint statement. "We worked together to support NDDOT's application, and this funding will help improve safety and traffic flow for servicemembers, the Minot community and those traveling through the region."
