WILLISTON - The Williston Fire Department (WFD) reported it responded Sunday, Aug. 9, to a commercial structure fire started by an incinerator.
The department was dispatched at 12:30 p.m. to the 1300 block of East Broadway Street following an initial report from a person driving by the location who saw smoke coming from the roof of the building. Arriving at 12:36 p.m., the first fire crew on the scene observed brown smoke coming from the roof near the rear of the building and smoke throughout the building. The crews identified an incinerator attached to the rear of the structure was the source of the smoke. The incinerator was in operation and experienced an unknown failure, causing the smoke to spread into the structure. The fire was extinguished at 12:49 p.m.
The WFD Fire Prevention Division is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
