The Ward County Sheriff's Department has issued a statement encouraging community members and visitors to be aware of current changes to kratom laws in North Dakota.
Since Wednesday, Aug. 5, the sale, possession and use of kratom and kratom products is prohibited in North Dakota under Gov. Kelly Armstrong’s Executive Order declaring a public health emergency. Additionally, 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH), a primary psychoactive compound found in many kratom products, has been classified by the North Dakota Board of Pharmacy as a Schedule I controlled substance.
Consumers who are concerned about recovery or withdrawal are encouraged to call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline or contact the 211 Information and Referral Helpline for assistance. The sheriff's department recommends the public not to purchase, possess or use kratom products and to comply with the order.
For disposal, retailers and residents can find local law enforcement Take Back sites or pharmacy MedSafe drop-offs through the ND Attorney General's website. Information for citizens and parents concerning kratom and 7_OH can be found at parentslead.org.
