An attempted murder charge was dismissed, but a five-year sentence for aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon was imposed Monday, Aug. 3, against a man charged in connection with a stabbing at a South Broadway restaurant last September, according to North Central District Court records.
Isac Chavez-Zapata entered a guilty plea on Monday before District Judge Richard Hagar. His sentence includes a two-year mandatory minimum. He will receive credit for 307 days served.
He also is subject to a no-contact order related to the victim, who had been hospitalized, and faces fees and restitution totaling $189,333. Restitution accounts for $155,098.
Chavez-Zapata, who was listed as from Mexico at the time of his arrest on Sept. 28, had led officers on a search with SWAT and K9 units and drones following the stabbing incident. He later contacted the Minot Police Department to turn himself in at a southeast Minot hotel without incident, according to police department information.
