PSC schedules hearing on wind farm

BISMARCK - The North Dakota Public Service Commission (PSC) will hold a public hearing on Thursday, Aug. 20, regarding a proposal to "repower" the Prairie Winds Project in Ward County.
Basin Electric Power Cooperative is requesting to amend the siting permit issued in 2009 for the existing Prairie Winds-ND 1 Wind Energy Facility. Basin is requesting to remove the 1.5 megawatt per turbine and the 115.5 MW facility restrictions. Basin proposes to remove the existing turbines and upgrade them to 1.6 MW turbines with a total facility capacity of up to 128 MWs. The project will not affect the current layout or expand the site boundary.
The project is located in Ward County, about 24 miles south of Minot.
The hearing begins at 9 a.m. at the Sleep Inn & Suites Conference Center in Minot.
The hearing provides an opportunity for members of the public to contribute to the PSC's official record. Any comments from members of the public must be received at the hearing to be part of the record. People with concerns, questions or support/ opposition for the project are encouraged to attend the hearing and present their information. Information received after the hearing will not be part of the official record and cannot be used as a basis for the commission's decision unless certain additional procedures are followed.
