ND Community Foundation grants $11M in 2025

BISMARCK - The North Dakota Community Foundation (NDCF) has announced it awarded more than $11 million in grants in 2025. The organization was founded 50 years ago to improve the quality of life of North Dakotans through charitable giving and promoting philanthropy.
Most of NDCF's assets are in endowment funds, providing permanent grant dollars to North Dakota communities, schools, students, and nonprofit organizations. NDCF currently manages more than 1,000 charitable funds, including 73 local community foundations in the state and over 200 scholarship funds for North Dakota students. It also administers organizational endowment funds, donor-advised funds, school foundations, and special interest funds for individuals and nonprofit organizations across North Dakota.
Some of the community foundations at NDCF in this area of the state are the Minot Community Endowment Fund, Westhope Area Community Foundation, Mohall Area Community Foundation, Sherwood/Antler Community Foundation, Kenmare Area Community Foundation and Powers Lake Community Foundation.
The Minot Community Endowment Fund was established in 1981 and had assets at the end of 2025 of more than $2 million, which includes assets of the T.A. & Anna Solheim Endowment Fund and the Charles & Madge Westlie Endowment Fund. It has awarded 619 grants since its inception, totaling more than $1.5 million. It has donated to a number of local charitable organizations.
The Westhope Area Community Foundation was established in 1996 and finished 2025 with $89,504 in assets. The fund has awarded 17 grants totaling more than $24,000 since its inception. Grantees have included schools, parks and public safety agencies.
The Mohall Area Community Foundation was established in 2007 and had total assets at the end of 2025 of $177,254. The fund has made 36 grants to date totaling over $34,000. Grantees have included organizations meeting the needs of youth and seniors..
The Sherwood/Antler Community Foundation was established in 2010 and had $125,334 in assets at the end of 2025. It has awarded 25 grants totaling more than $13,000 to area nonprofits as well as to public safety and parks.
The Kenmare Area Community Foundation was established in 2009 and had assets at the end of 2025 of $279,732. The fund has awarded 101 grants totaling more than $96,000 since its inception. Grantees have included projects supporting the local school, historical society, food pantry, art club, senior citizens and others.
The Powers Lake Community Foundation was established in 2019 and finished 2025 with $266,641 in total assets. It has awarded 11 grants since its inception, totaling $10,334 to various organizations such as those supporting holiday food baskets, food for those in need and recreation.
NDCF ended 2025 with $188 million in total assets. Most of NDCF's assets are in endowment funds, providing permanent grant dollars to North Dakota communities, schools, and nonprofit organizations. The organization has awarded more than $134 million in grants and charitable program expenses since its inception in 1976.
All of NDCF's community endowment funds are guided by advisory committees made up of local volunteers who are responsible for fundraising to help grow their endowment fund and who recommend grant awards every year. All gifts to community endowment funds are tax deductible. In addition, individuals who donate at least $5,000 and businesses that donate any amount to a community endowment fund at NDCF may be eligible for the 40% ND state tax credit.
