Minot City Transit is hosting its annual free ride week from Aug. 10-14.
"Free ride week takes some of the pressure away from trying something new," Minot City Transit superintendent Brian Horinka said. "Try our bus system as a group, make mistakes and ask our drivers questions. See if the bus can be a City of Minot travel solution for you and your household."
Two extra routes will be offered beginning on Aug. 19 during the high-volume ridership times in the weekday 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. hour blocks. Extra routes are offered during the school year to accommodate peak ridership. The two extra routes will be along the East/West routes and Southwest/North routes.
Traditionally, a third extra route has been offered along the Southeast/North Central route. This third extra route will not be offered at this time due to staffing shortages but may be added before winter. Extra routes are highlighted in red in the Minot City Transit brochure.
Bus fares are normally $1.50 a ride with bulk purchase options available. A 31-day bus pass for a student or senior is $28.
To get started, visit the Minot City Transit center at 205 1st St. SW near City Hall in downtown Minot, open weekdays from 7 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Minot City Transit operates on a fixed-route system, which means residents can begin a free ride week trial by standing on a corner to wave over a bus driver along an existing bus route.
