WILLISTON - The League of Women Voters of North Dakota has announced the formation of the League of Women Voters of Williston, serving Williston and the surrounding areas. The chapter was born out of conversations among local residents who wanted to help increase voter turnout and civic engagement in the area.
“We're looking forward to continuing to connect voters with the information they need to cast their ballot with confidence,” said Montana Ackman, LWV of Williston president. “We've already tabled at multiple community events including Band Day and the Williston Sports & Rec Show. We've really enjoyed connecting with our community and learning how we can best support and empower our community members to exercise their right to vote.”
The LWV of Williston members voted to form a League chapter in March, and the chapter was officially recognized by the League of Women Voters of the U.S. this month. The newly elected chapter officers in addition to Ackman are Tiffany LeBaron, vice president; Bev Salmen, treasurer; and Sherlene Lambert, secretary.
Membership is open to anyone of any gender, age 16 years or older. The next meeting of the LWV of Williston will be Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. in the Williston Community Library’s Adrienne Stepanek Historical Archive Room of Williams County. All are welcome to attend.
