Head start will be holding a coat drive, though coats are not the only needed donations.
Donations will be accepted Sept 1-30, and the drop off location is Qdoba at 1700 S. Broadway, Minot.
This will be the first year in many years that Head Start has held a coat drive.
The greatest needs are snow pants sizes 2T-⅞, snow boots sizes toddler 5-13 and youth 1-5, coats sizes 3T-⅞ and warm cold-rated gloves.
Head Start is expecting 100-plus donations and is hoping for extras for the families of the children it is helping. Clothing can be brand new or gently used.
Items will be distributed to families the first week of October, immediately after the coat drive donation is finished.
According to Karen Knowles, Head Start director in Minot, the organization, founded in 1968, serves children ages birth to 5 years and pregnant women.
The program is child focused and strives to increase school readiness and social competence in young children and families.
It provide services such as medical, dental and mental health, encourages parent involvement and provides family support services.
Head Start serves Ward, Renville, Burke and Mountrail counties.
Preschool sites are in Minot and at Minot Air Force Base. In Minot there are preschool classrooms at the Main Head Start Center. The center at Minot AFB is located at Dakota Elementary School.
