BISMARCK - The Forest Service-Dakota Prairie Grasslands encourages families, schools and communities nationwide to take part in the Every Kid Outdoors program, a national initiative that provides U.S. fourth grade students and their families free entry to more than 2,000 federal lands, waters and national parks for a year.
The pass covers free entry for the eligible fourth grader, free entry for all children younger than age 16, free entry for up to three accompanying adults or everyone in one personal passenger vehicle at sites where vehicle fees apply. It is good for access to national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges and Bureau of Land Management sites.
After completing a brief online activity, each fourth grade student receives a voucher for a free Every Kid Outdoors National Park Pass, an $80 value, granting access for the student and their family through Aug. 31, 2027.
The activity may be completed at home with parents or led by classroom teachers in any school, public or private. Once completed, the voucher can be submitted to any Dakota Prairie Grasslands office to obtain the official pass card. If a school or family is not located near a DPG office, arrangements can be made to ensure students receive their passes.
