BELCOURT - FBI Minneapolis is offering a reward as it seeks the public's help in identifying the person or persons responsible for a 2017 hit-and-run death in Belcourt.
According to the FBI, on July 16, 2017, Jon Nicholas Patnaude was struck by a vehicle on BIA Road 10, in Belcourt. Patnaude died from injuries sustained in the collision. As a death investigation on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation, the matter is being investigated by the FBI under jurisdiction granted by the Major Crimes Act.
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the death of Patnaude's death. This reward is part of the FBI's surge of resources into Indian Country investigations under Operation Steadfast Promise and Operation Not Forgotten.
"The FBI is dedicated to finding justice for all crime victims," said FBI Minneapolis Field Office Special Agent in Charge Christopher D. Dotson. "It only takes one person to do the right thing for a grieving family. There is no better time than now to come forward with information that will answer the outstanding questions about Mr. Patnaude’s death."
