Eagles Wings Church is putting together its first ever Latin Fest to celebrate Hispanic heritage month and bring together the community. The event on Saturday, Sept. 19, is free for all ages and will be held from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Featuring vendors, art, food and beverages, the celebration will additionally include dancing, games and a live DJ. Worship pastor and Spanish-speaking service director David Espinoza said the food will be from different Hispanic and Latino countries.
"For sure it's going to be Dominican, Mexican and Colombian food, so you're going to taste a little bit of different seasonings from different countries," Espinoza said. "We will also have performances and dancing."
The performers will dance throughout the event and are from the Rinat Mouzafarov Institute of Dance and Ballet Theater. The studio announced that intermediate dancers will dance to music from "Poco Loco" and advanced female dancers to music from "Havana." Addison Pringle and Carter Klein will additionally be pairing up for a modern Latino duet. Furthermore, Klein will join Isaac Siembida for a duet to "Encanto." Ali Haas will be performing a flamingo dance during the event as well.
Latin Fest will be a no-profit event and has been in the works for some time. Espinoza said that it has always been in his heart for his Godly mission. He explained the celebration is a way to thank God and be grateful for this country.
Hispanic heritage month spans from Sept. 15-Oct. 15, and was officially recognized on Aug 17, 1988, to recognize the history, contributions and culture of Hispanic and Latino Americans. President Lyndon Johnson first created Hispanic Heritage Week in 1968 to mark the independence anniversaries of several Central American nations.
"It's an opportunity to thank God because of the multicultural aspects that we incorporate to the state’s culture," Espinoza said. "We're so thankful for this land, for this country. We love to represent our culture, in a way that we can be a blessing for the community. This is an opportunity to celebrate the good things, good people and be proud in the sense of gratitude.”
The Cleveland, Tennessee, based Church of God launched "Eagles Wings en Espanol," in 2022 to reach the growing Hispanic community in Minot and surrounding areas. Eagles Wings is one of three churches in Minot that offer Spanish-speaking services and Bible studies.
"The heart of this event is to bring our community together, create meaningful connections and celebrate this special occasion in a welcoming and joyful Latino-atmosphere," according to the church’s website.
