Law enforcement agencies across North Dakota will increase patrols Friday, Aug. 14, through Monday, Sept. 7, as part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign, according to the Vision Zero campaign. The effort is focused on removing impaired drivers from the road and preventing alcohol and drug-related crashes.
“Alcohol and drugs reduce your ability to make responsible decisions behind the wheel,” said North Dakota State Patrol Lieutenant Matt Johnson. “Our officers will be working throughout the enforcement period to identify impaired drivers before they cause a tragedy.”
The enforcement campaign is supported by messaging that reminds motorists how alcohol and drugs affect driving ability by slowing reaction time, reducing coordination and impairing judgement. Even small amounts of impairment can increase the risk of a crash.
Motorists are encouraged to make a plan before consuming alcohol or other impairing substances. Designate a sober driver, arrange a ride with a friend or family member or use a rideshare service.
Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over is part of North Dakota’s Vision Zero strategy to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries statewide.
