The Minot City Council met in executive session Wednesday, Aug. 26, to discuss a police department case in which confidential records are involved.
In open session, the council was told the case is of a sensitive nature because it involves a mental health committal and an open and active criminal investigation.
City Manager Tom Joyce said there is an ongoing investigation process related to proposed disciplinary action against six officers, and he believes the council should be kept abreast of that process even though confidentiality issues are involved. City Attorney Stefanie Stalheim also said there is no pending litigation or threat of litigation at this time.
After discussing whether receiving the information is appropriate, the council voted to close the meeting to hear from the police department and city attorney.
