GRENORA - Public comment is being sought on a proposed new water treatment plant in Grenora.
The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality (NDDEQ) has made a preliminary determination that no environmental impact statement is necessary based on a review that found no significant environmental impacts.
The proposed $3.4 million project involves construction of a new greensand filtration water treatment facility in Grenora. The existing two drinking water wells supplying potable drinking water to the city contain manganese levels exceeding the Environmental Protection Agency health advisory level. The new water treatment facility will be located within city limits and treat the water from both wells for iron and manganese, according to NDDEQ information.
The City of Grenora plans to apply for a Drinking Water State Revolving Fund loan of $2.89 million to help finance the project.
The project site is located at a site previously used for railroad maintenance access and is currently a gravel parking lot.
Comments concerning this decision may be addressed to Mitch Murray, Environmental Engineer, Division of Municipal Facilities, North Dakota Department of EnvironmentaL Quality, 4201 Normandy St., Bismarck, ND, 58503-1324.
After evaluating the comments received, the agency will make a final decision; however, no administrative action will be taken on the project for at least 30 calendar days after release of the Finding of No Significant Impact.
