Road assessment team begins work in area
The Central Dakota Metropolitan Planning Organization (CDMPO) and City of Minot recently kicked off a project to assess the condition of all roads within the CDMPO jurisdiction and the city.
To accomplish this, the CDMPO and city retained the services of Quality Engineering Service, Inc. (QES) based in Wexford, Pennsylvania. QES is a nationwide firm specializing exclusively in pavement engineering, pavement management and condition evaluation. QES is partnering with Roadway Asset Services (RAS) of Austin, Texas, to perform objective mobile data collection services to accurately identify the pavement distresses present across the roadway networks.
RAS operates a fleet of sophisticated data collection vehicles equipped with an array of precision instrumentation and data collection equipment that helps state and local transportation agencies inventory and manage transportation infrastructure, facilities and assets.
To collect all relevant data, the survey vehicles will be traveling all roads in the City of Minot and all roads under the CDMPO jurisdiction. The survey vehicles travel at posted speeds with minimal impact on traffic flow. To ensure the highest quality of data and imagery, the survey vehicles will only collect data during daylight hours.
A meet-and-greet event will be held, which will include the data collection vehicle on display, on Wednesday, July 15, at 11 a.m. at Minot City Hall’s south parking lot at 10 3rd Ave. SW.
If residents have questions or need additional information regarding the vehicles, the project or the process, they should contact CDMPO at 420-4524.
