Honoring veterans with quilts

Lynn Heald, leader of the Minot Peace and Honor Quilts of Valor, has presented about 75 quilts each year to honor veterans since presenting the first one in 2020.
She said all of the quilts are made by local women and men.
Recently, Heald presented quilts to Andy Siakala and Brock Gilstad, members of the Minot Disabled American Veterans Chapter 4. The presentation was held during the Midsummer Festival at Scandinavian Heritage Park.
Minot Peace and Honor Quilts of Valor has partnered with the local Civil Air Patrol, presenter of the Minot Wreaths Across America program. CAP cadets also participated in the recent presentation to the two DAV Minot Chapter 4 members.
A similar event by Minot Peace and Honor Quilts of Valor and Minot Wreaths Across America, called “Threads of Remembrance,” will be held Aug. 22 at 11 a.m. in the Minot Municipal Auditorium, according to Heald and Robyn Stoner with CAP and Wreaths Across America. Several veterans will be presented quilts at that time. The presentation will be held during Minot’s two-day Fjord Fest.
Wreaths Across America, a nonprofit organization, is known for volunteers laying wreaths at the graves of veterans on a day set aside in December. The wreaths are sponsored by individuals and organizations.
Sponsors are being sought for wreaths to honor veterans and details are available at MinotWreaths.org.
