INSPIRITUS Community Health Foundation has announced $8,000 in scholarship awards from The Friends of Kevin Mattson Scholarship Endowed Fund supporting area students continuing their education goals in the construction and trade industries.
The Friends of Kevin Mattson Scholarship fund has awarded four $2,000 scholarships. Landen Jansen, Minot, will study heating, ventilation, air conditioning and plumbing (HVAC) at North Dakota State School of Science, Wahpeton. Kole Herman of Kenmare will attend Bismarck State College to pursue a degree in welding. Tate Heer, Douglas, and Gage Holter, Kenmare, are pursuing degrees in the electrical lineman field at Bismarck State College.
The Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Kevin Mattson, a Minot native who owned and operated Mattson Construction and The Grand Hotel with his family from 1976-2010. Throughout his career, Mattson believed that standards are the keystone to every project and success begins with a skilled team. Craftsmen and subcontractor selection was based on demonstration of the highest standard of excellence in workmanship. Knowledge, expertise, leadership and dedication were the cornerstone of each professional and every project.
“These scholarships continue to help our area students interested in building community infrastructures for the future," said Shelly Weppler, president of INSPIRITUS Community Health Foundation. "We are honored by the impact this legacy endowment fund has provided to our region."
In 2026, scholarship funds facilitated by the INSPIRITUS Community Health Foundation awarded $27,475 to area students.
