MEDORA - Hunter Schuh of Harvey High School and Kari Hall of Williston High School are among five finalists in the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation's annual North Dakota History Teacher Contest.
The contest recognizes educators who inspire students through history and foster a deeper appreciation for North Dakota's people, places and heritage, according to the foundation.
One of the five finalists will be named the grand prize winner during Back-to-School & Celebrate History Summer Showcase Night on Aug. 15 in Medora.
Students from across North Dakota submitted essays describing how their history teacher brings the past to life in the classroom and inspires a lifelong interest in North Dakota history. The five finalists were selected from those nominations for their impact on students and their commitment to history education.
In addition to Schuh and Hall, finalists are Daniel Fischer, Medina Schools; Andrea Hugen, Grafton Century School; and Jeramie Schafer, Bismarck Wachter Middle School.
The grand prize winner will receive $1,000 for classroom supplies, along with two tickets to the Medora Musical and a one-night stay at Elkhorn Quarters. The remaining four finalists will each receive $500 for classroom supplies, as well as two tickets to the Medora Musical and a one-night stay at Elkhorn Quarters.
