District 5 candidate charged with shoplifting

By MDN STAFF 1 min read

Kyle Erickson, 36, a candidate for the North Dakota House of Representatives District 5, is facing a petty theft charge.

Erickson allegedly shoplifted a pair of headphones, valued at $26.99, from a Minot business on May 31. According to a Minot Police Department affidavit, store surveillance video showed Erickson taking the headphones into a restroom. The store manager later found the empty box hidden in a child restraint device inside a stall. Erickson had already passed the point of sale and left the building without making a purchase.

Police identified Erickson using the store’s footage and his driver’s license, and the store manager noted having previous problems with him, the affidavit stated. When contacted by an officer about the incident, Erickson reportedly said, “bad things did happen,” but declined to discuss the matter further.
