Nominations sought for local history awards
BISMARCK — The State Historical Society of North Dakota is seeking nominations for the annual awards program recognizing outstanding achievement in three categories of history: Excellence in Local History, Heritage Profile Honor, and North Dakota Person of History. Details and nomination forms are available online and must be delivered or postmarked by Friday, July 10, at 5 p.m.
The Excellence in Local History Award recognizes individuals, groups or organizations who have dedicated time, talent and efforts to local and regional history and serve as a role model of excellence. The award honors those associated specifically with local, county and regional historical organizations within North Dakota. Eligible nominees may be individuals, groups or organizations that have made a significant contribution in preserving, interpreting, researching, publishing, promoting, or otherwise extending the knowledge and understanding of the history of their locality, county or region. Their efforts demonstrate evidence of long-term dedication and personal commitment to advancing the understanding of local history.
The Heritage Profile Honor Award recognizes individuals who have made lasting or significant contributions in extending the knowledge and understanding of the academic history of North Dakota and have demonstrated long-term commitment in pursuit of these goals. Eligible individuals may be living or deceased.
The North Dakota Person of History Award recognizes individuals who have had a prominent role in the history of North Dakota. It posthumously honors those who have made a lasting or significant contribution to the growth, development and progress of the state or the social well-being of its citizens; achieved acclaim or prominence in their fields of endeavor; or had a profound effect upon state history or people’s lives. A nominee must have been deceased at least 10 years.
