Farmer swaths Trump tribute in field

Submitted Photo Ryan Stevens swathed the numbers 45 and 47 in an alfalfa/grass field on Saturday, June 27, to honor Donald Trump, the nation’s 45th and 47th president, as shown in this drone photo taken by a neighbor.

When area farmer Ryan Stevens heard President Donald Trump was coming to North Dakota this week, he decided to carve out a tribute in a hay field with the hope that the president might fly by on his way to Medora on July 1.

“There was a rumor that Trump might be coming to the Air Force base, or to Bismarck. We weren’t really sure. But we wanted to honor him as a president, and we figured that would be pretty nice for him to see,” Stevens said.

Last Saturday, June 27, a 45 and 47 were swathed, following a laser design, in an alfalfa/grass field. The numbers recognize Trump as the nation’s 45th and 47th president. Stevens’ farm is near Minot Air Force Base and along the B-52 flight path.

Although the latest report is Trump won’t be coming to Minot Air Force Base, Stevens said one never knows if there might be a spontaneous flyover of the base once Air Force One is in the state.

“Even if he doesn’t come see it, that’s still a tribute to the president,” he said. “We don’t get a president coming to North Dakota very often. It’s more for respect than anything.”

Starting at $3.75/week.
