America’s 250th Birthday: July 4 celebrations set for Minot, area

Base aircraft taking part in events

MINOT AIR FORCE BASE — Aircraft from Minot Air Force Base are scheduled to participate in the Friday, July 3, event at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, according to a Minot AFB spokesman.

B-52 bombers from the 5th Bomb Wing at Minot AFB also are scheduled to fly over New York City and Washington, D.C., on Saturday, July 4.

Leadership from the base and other base personnel plan to participate in the July 4 parade in Minot.

Minot and other communities in North Dakota will commemorate and celebrate on Saturday, July 4, the most important milestone in this country’s history – the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

A number of special events are being planned in the city of Minot on Saturday to bring together the community with patriotic traditions, according to Visit Minot. These include family-friendly activities, live entertainment, sports and a spectacular fireworks finale.

The day begins with the annual Minot Shrine Club Fourth of July Parade at 10 a.m.

The parade starts at the corner of 25th Street Northwest and Fourth Avenue Northwest. It will travel down Fourth Avenue Northwest to Sixth Street Northwest. Lineup will be in the St. John the Apostle Catholic Church parking lot. Those who would like to be in the parade including businesses and organizations can contact Dan Olson at 263-7719 or Jim Clifford at 340-0385. Commercial units are asked to make a small donation to the Minot Shrine Club. Non-commercial units are free.

The Minot Parks Fourth of July Festival at Oak Park follows the parade. Those attending can enjoy live music, food trucks, games and family-friendly activities.

There also will be a Hot Tots baseball game at Corbett Field, then racing at Nodak Speedway at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds beginning at 7 p.m.

A choreographed fireworks show presented by the Minot Fireworks Association and billed as the largest choreographed fireworks show in North Dakota, will follow the races.

Other communities

Nearby communities including Berthold and Velva also have activities planned on July 4. Berthold has a parade beginning at 11 a.m. and a number of other activities.

Velva has a parade beginning at 10 a.m. and various other activities.

The National Weather Service forecasts a sunny day in Minot with a high near 87 on July 4. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms, according to forecasters.
