3,604 citations issued during Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign
Law enforcement across North Dakota issued 3,604 citations during the Click It or Ticket enforcement campaign throughout May.
According to the North Dakota Department of Transportation, the campaign focused on increasing seat belt use and encouraging personal responsibility to reduce serious injuries and fatalities on North Dakota roads.
A total of 2,536 citations were issued for seat belt violations and 31 for child restraint violations. Additionally, officers issued 400 speeding citations, 23 distracted driving citations and seven driving under the influence arrests.
The campaign coincides with the beginning of the 100 Days of Summer when traffic volumes increase, a period where historically more traffic deaths occur. The NDDOT reports the state has recorded 40 traffic fatalities, compared to 27 during the same time period in 2025 and 25 during the same period in 2024. Half the people killed in North Dakota crashes this year were not wearing a seat belt when one was available.
“Every driver and passenger has a role to play in reversing this trend,” said Karin Mongeon, director of the North Dakota Department of Transportation Highway Safety Division. “Buckling up, following posted speed limits, driving sober and eliminating distractions are simple choices that can save lives.”
High-visibility traffic enforcement is one part of a collaborative statewide effort to reach North Dakota’s goal of zero motor vehicle fatalities and serious injuries.
