Hammer to give Memorial Day address

Retired Maj. Trygve Hammer will give the address for Minot’s Memorial Day program Monday, May 25, at 10:30 a.m. in Rosehill Memorial Park’s Veterans Section.
A native of Velva, Hammer, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps, is a former educator, oil field roughneck and now political columnist and candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives.
Others taking part in the program include master of ceremony, Master Sgt. Maria Dezotell of Minot Air Force Base; advancement and retirement of colors by the Minot AFB Honor Guard; opening and closing prayer by DeVawn Beckman, Minot Police Department chaplain; National Anthem by the Minot Chamber Chorale; wreath placement by the Minot Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 753 Auxiliary; rifle salute by Minot VFW Post 753; and “Taps” by John Whiteman. The audience will participate in reciting the “Pledge of Allegiance.”
The program is presented in cooperation with the veterans organizations and auxiliaries, Rosehill Memorial Park and the City of Minot. The VFW is in charge of this year’s program.
Earlier in the morning, the Navy Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at 8 a.m. at the Eighth Street bridge at 8 a.m. Hosted by VFW Post #753, the ceremony will honor Navy soldiers.
Donnybrook post to host Memorial Day program
DONNYBROOK – The Clarence McCormick American Legion Post and Auxiliary of Donnybrook will host a Memorial Day program Monday, May 25, at 11 a.m. at Donnybrook City Hall.
Marvin Baker, who had retired as first sergeant from the North Dakota National Guard after 35 years, will deliver the Memorial Day address. A journalist and author, he has had a long career with newspapers and military publications and in the operation of North Star Farms near Carpio with his wife, Ilene.
The program begins with presentation of the colors and will conclude with a rifle salute. A lunch will be served following the program. Donnybrook City Hall is located in the former school on the east side of Donnybrook.
