According to the Minot Fire Department, on Wednesday, May 6, at approximately 8:30 a.m., firefighters responded to the 200 block of 22nd Street Northwest for reports of a City of Minot sanitation truck on fire.

Firefighters arrived on scene in 2 minutes and 35 seconds from the initial dispatch and found the heavy smoke and flames coming from a rubbish pile on the roadway. Prior to the firefighters’ arrival, the driver of the sanitation truck emptied the hopper containing the burning debris to the roadway.

Crews immediately pulled a bumper line to extinguish the flames. Other firefighters arrived on scene and began pulling the rubbish pile apart to expose hot spots to uncover the seat of the fire.

The fire was extinguished with the help of the street department payloader operator, who assisted by moving the rubbish pile around to ensure all hot spots were extinguished.

Once the fire was out, the street department removed all the debris from the roadway.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
