RSV, COVID-19 cases decrease in ND

RSV and COVID-19 cases slightly decreased in North Dakota while influenza cases have remained unchanged, according to recent data released by the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services.

The current respiratory disease surveillance data for North Dakota is for the week ending Saturday, April 4.

The report provides a summary of respiratory disease activity in North Dakota, including influenza, COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

Data are used for disease surveillance and monitoring of trends. All data are preliminary and subject to revision.

North Dakota reported 432 influenza cases, reflecting no change from the prior week, and 179 RSV cases and 50 COVID-19 cases.

Since the beginning of the 2025-26 respiratory season on Aug. 1, North Dakota has reported 12,540 influenza cases, 5,182 COVID-19 cases and 1,621 RSV cases.

Vital records data show 24 influenza-related deaths, 41 COVID-19-related deaths and one RSV-related death reported during the season to date.

There were 18 influenza-related hospitalizations, 12 COVID-19 hospitalizations and 31 RSV hospitalizations, all a slight decrease from the prior week.

Season-to-date hospitalization totals statewide include 1,015 influenza-related hospitalizations, 719 COVID-19-related hospitalizations and 245 RSV-related hospitalizations.

Outpatient surveillance data collected through the Influenza-Like Illness Network (ILINet) indicated a statewide influenza-like illness percentage of 1.51%, a slight increase from the prior week.

Influenza test positivity was 13.96%, a decrease from the prior week. COVID-19 test positivity slightly increased to 4.93%, while RSV test positivity decreased to 9.33%.

State health officials also reported that 26.81% of North Dakota residents ages 6 months and older have received an influenza vaccination this season, an increase from the prior week.

Based on current surveillance indicators, influenza activity and COVID-19 activity in North Dakota were classified as moderate with no change from the prior week. RSV activity was categorized as moderate while increased from the prior week statewide.
