ND city officials earn leadership awards

BISMARCK – City officials from across North Dakota were recognized for leadership development during the North Dakota League of Cities’ recent 2026 Spring Workshop and elected officials training in Dickinson. The honors are part of the League’s Leadership Training Program, a four-tier certificate program that helps municipal officials strengthen leadership skills and serve their communities more effectively.

The NDLC recognized 20 individuals with the Innovator Award for 30 hours of training. Innovator Award recipients included Auditor Pam Stewart of Goodrich, Auditor Tammy Knutson of Kenmare, City Engineer David Juma of Williston, Auditor Andrew Presnell of New Rockford and Auditor Shonella Lemer of Martin.

The NDLC recognized 10 individuals with the Visionary Award for 60 hours of training. They included City Council member Devra Smestad of Burlington, Auditor Sandy Raines of Columbus, Deputy Auditor Erica Meadows of Washburn and Billee Jo Iglehart of Garrison.

Six received the Leader Award for 100 hours of training, including Auditor Brandi Gillespie of Alexander, Deputy Auditor Jan Dancer of Ray and Auditor Chelsey Brandt of Washburn.

The 110% Award recipients, who completed 200 hours, were City Commissioner Mary Liz Davis of Velva, Deputy Auditor Pam Jerome of Carrington, Deputy Auditor Ronica Pederson of Stanley, Deputy Auditor Desiree Hanson of Tioga and Auditor Jennifer Johns of Velva.
