Bond set in archery club fraud case

Dallas Rice

One of the two individuals accused of stealing $180,000 from a Minot archery club made his initial appearance on Monday, April 20.

Dallas Rice, 37, Minot, appeared before Judge Gary Lee for the hearing in North Central District Court where he faces Class A felony counts of conspiracy to commit-theft-take-exceed $50,000 and theft-take-over $50,000.

According to court documents, Dallas Rice, along with his wife and co-defendant Nichole Rice, are accused of stealing more than $180,000 from the Souris Valley Bowmen Club over the course of a three year period while they served as the group’s president and secretary and treasurer.

Lee ordered a $5,000 personal recognizance bond, which allows Dallas Rice to remain out of custody provided he appears for all court hearings and complies with court orders, which included having no contract with members of the Souris Valley Bowmen board.

Dallas Rice is scheduled to next appear for a preliminary hearing and arraignment on May 26.

Nichole Rice has been charged with one Class A felony count of conspiracy to commit theft-take-exceeds $50,000 and theft-take-$10,000-$50,000, a Class B felony. The cases of the two defendants were severed following the recusal of all North Central District Court judges, and a split decision regarding the assignment of judges by the North Dakota Supreme Court. Nichole Rice’s case was assigned to Judge Benjamin Johnson of the Northwest District Court. She will have her initial appearance on May 1.
