Ward County shooters finish strong at 4-H air rifle event

Ward County had 10 shooters participate in the Ramsey County 4-H Air Rifle Hybrid Invitational Match on Feb. 14 in Devils Lake.
The air rifle match featured age-based divisions. Beginners (ages 8-10), Juniors (11-13), and Senior (14-18), and Masters (age 14 and older who have qualified for a national contest). Competitors used .177 caliber sporter air rifles (firing pellets at 600 feet per second or less) on AR 5/10 International 10-meter targets.
Beginners shot from a seated, bench-rested position, while Junior and Senior competitors fired from standing, kneeling and prone positions.
In the Master Division, Zachary Korgel of Minot came in third place with a score of 448 and Alyssa Korgel of Minot came in fourth place with a score of 443.
In the Senior Division, Kiley Whillock, Kenmare, came in first place with a score of 501 and Cady Malmedal, Lincoln, came in second place with a score of 492.
In the Junior Division, Owen Malmedal, Lincoln, came in third place with a score of 351; Nolan Lee, Sawyer, came in seventh place with a score of 265; and Tanner Lee, Sawyer, came in eighth place with a score of 263.
The team of N. Lee, T. Lee and Malmedal placed third with a combined score of 879.
In the Beginner Division, Kayla Whillock, Kenmare, came in first place with a score of 577 and Zane Lee, Sawyer, came in eighth place with a score of 494.
Also representing Ward County was Xavier Lee of Sawyer. The team of X. Lee, Z. Lee, and Whillock placed second with a combined score of 1560.
