The Magic City Figure Skating Club will present its annual ice show, “Heroes vs. Villains on Ice,” March 27-29 at the Pepsi Rink inside Maysa Arena.
Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, March 27 and 28, and 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 29.
The show will feature skaters ranging in age from about 4 years old to adults, performing routines inspired by famous heroes and villains.
“We have around 100 skaters performing,” said Barb Kohlman of the Magic City Figure Skating Club. “Mainly (from) Minot, and some are from the smaller areas around town, more rural, like Burlington.”
The club includes skaters at many levels, from beginners to experienced competitors.
“The girls all skate year-round,” Kohlman said. “Some of the higher-level skaters qualify for specialty numbers, and then we also have our Learn to Skate skaters who are just starting.”
For many skaters, the show represents years of dedication to the sport.
Maddie Kirkhammer, 13, has been skating since she was 3 years old and practices three to four times a week.
“It is pretty hard,” Kirkhammer said of the training involved in figure skating. “But I’d tell anyone thinking about skating to just try it, no matter your age, because you will regret not trying.”
In this year’s show, Kirkhammer will perform as Tinker Bell.
Another performer, Emerson Holt, 14, said she has been skating for about 10 years and trains four to five times a week.
“It’s been a lot of hard times and fun times,” Holt said of her experience in the sport.
Holt will portray the Evil Queen in the show.
“Just come try it,” Holt said. “It’s fun and it’s different than a lot of things.”
Special guest performers will include national and world champion ice dance team Leah Neset and Artem Markelov. Neset, originally from Minot, now trains in Colorado Springs as a competitive ice dancer.
The pair has skated together since 2020 and has achieved significant success, including winning the 2024 World Junior Ice Dance championship, the 2023 ISU Junior Grand Prix title and three U.S. Figure Skating national championships.
Tickets are available in advance from participating skaters or at X-Golf or at the door. Children age 5 and younger will be admitted free.
