Police department outlines temporary pound plans

The Minot Police Department has announced the updated procedures and contact information related to temporary animal pound operations.

According to information from the Minot Police Department, beginning March 3, the public may call 857-4785 with questions related to pound management, including whether an animal has been impounded, reclaim fees and release procedures. This number is for pound-related inquiries only.

To request an officer or community service officer response for non-emergency animal-related matters, citizens should contact Central Dispatch at 852-0111.

Beginning March 3, cat services will be under contract with Hairball Haven. Hairball Haven will not be involved in any public-facing pound operations. Members of the public should not contact Hairball Haven directly for pound-related matters.

Dog and exotic animal services will begin March 9. Daily care and management services will be provided by the Animal Empowerment League (AEL). AEL will not be involved in any public-facing pound operations.

Animal releases will occur Monday through Friday during normal business hours. Owners must complete payment at the Police Department Records Division. Once payment is processed, the animal will be transported to the police department for reunification.

The City of Minot is not accepting owner-surrenders. Individuals wishing to surrender an animal must contact a local rescue organization directly.

Starting at $2.99/week.
