Parkinson’s Disease Walk for Awareness set for April 11

A Parkinson’s Disease Walk for Awareness will be held Saturday, April 11, from 10 a.m.-noon at the Minot Family YMCA.

The community is invited to join in the walk to raise awareness and to support individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

About 10 million people worldwide and 1 million people in the United States are living with Parkinson’s, with men 1.5 times more likely than women to develop the disease, according to data from Parkinson’s organizations. The average onset is around 60 years, although younger people can be diagnosed.

Every six minutes, someone is diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Walk participants are encouraged to complete six laps around the YMCA track in honor of someone living with Parkinson’s.

Participants will use the track located on the upper level. Elevator access is available. Participants do not have to be members of the YMCA to attend.

There is no registration fee and all walkers are welcome. Preregistration is not required but will save time when checking in. Preregister at www.tinyurl.com/ParkinsonWalk.

Starting at $2.99/week.
