One person dies in Mercer County crash
GLEN ULLIN — One person died and five others were injured in a two-vehicle crash on N.D. Highway 49, about 15 miles north of Glen Ullin, Thursday, March 26.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, a 2022 Chevrolet Colorado pickup, driven by a 35-year-old Beulah man, was traveling south on Highway 49, approaching the intersection with 28th Street Southwest. At the same time, a 2014 Ford Escape, driven by a 40-year-old New Salem woman, was traveling west on 28th Street Southwest and approached a stop sign. The Ford failed to stop and entered the intersection, crossing the path of the Chevrolet. The Chevrolet struck the Ford on the front passenger side and both vehicles left the roadway.
One passenger, a juvenile age 7, in the Ford, died at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet, the driver of the Ford, and three passengers in the Ford, juveniles, ages 4, 9 and 12, were all seriously injured and taken to a Bismarck hospital.
Highway 49 was closed in both directions for about one hour.
The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
