Lewis and Clark Day planned at Confluence center
WILLISTON — Celebrate the historic moment when the Lewis and Clark Expedition reached the Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence during a day of hands-on activities and programs Sunday, April 26, 9 a.m.-5 pm, at the Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence Interpretive Center near Williston.
Throughout the day, explore the people, skills and discoveries that shaped this pivotal chapter in American history. The free event is open to families, homeschool groups and history enthusiasts of all ages. Drop in anytime to participate in hands-on stations, crafts and interpretive activities designed for all ages. Activities include a map and navigation station where you can practice using a compass, compare historic and modern maps and create an expedition map.
Additional stations will demonstrate practical frontier skills such as knot tying and survival techniques used by explorers traveling across the northern Plains. Learn about the plants and animals encountered by the Corps of Discovery and try nature journaling inspired by the landscapes surrounding the confluence.
Short interpretive talks titled “When They Were Here–Lewis and Clark at the Confluence” will be offered at 10 a.m., noon and 3 p.m. The presentations will highlight what occurred during the expedition’s time at this historic crossroads and its lasting impact.
Families with young children can attend interactive story times designed for explorers ages 7 and younger at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The interpretive center also will host “Timeless Traditions: Frontier-Style Braided Rugs” on Saturday, April 11, from 2-3 p.m. The free program is open to ages 8 and older and blends history, creativity, and frontier ingenuity. No prior experience is necessary.

These events are part of the ND250 commemoration celebrating the country’s 250th anniversary.
