The Brass Band of Minot will close their 2025-2026 season at Minot University’s Anne Nicole Nelson Hall with “The Best of Brass,” featuring great Brass Band music in a variety of styles on Sunday, March 29, at 4 p.m.. Special guest is the Heritage Singers.

The band will start with John Williams’ “Olympic Fanfare and Theme,” followed by an upbeat and dynamic arrangement of “That’s Entertainment.” Baritone player Jeff Musgrave will solo with a band accompaniment on “Be Thou My Vision.” The band will play a fun (and funny) arrangement of Augustin Lara’s “Grenada.” The concert will take a more serious turn with John Rutter’s gentle and peaceful masterpiece, “A Gaelic Blessing,” and conclude with another of John Rutter’s greats, “The Lord Bless You and Keep You.”

The Brass Band of Minot is directed by Wayne Schempp and consists of brass and percussion players from northwest North Dakota. Players range from high school students to professional music educators. Their concerts are free and open to the public, although cash and check donations are welcome and help pay for the band’s expenses.

The Heritage Singers are an all-male choir originally founded in the early 1970s by MSU’s Dr. Joseph Hegstad to give men an opportunity to sing after college. About 30 to 50 choir members sing in a variety of musical styles and put on three major local performances in the Minot area each year.

The group is performing with the Minot Symphony Orchestra in “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” on May 2 at 7 p.m. or May 3 at 3 p.m.. Its annual spring concert will be May 14 at 7 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church.

Sunday’s concert is supported in part by a grant from the North Dakota Council on the Arts, which receives funding from the state Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The brass band will be back in October for its 2026-2027 season.

Starting at $2.99/week.
