North Dakota’s Republican congressional delegation and governor welcomed the direction the country is heading under President Donald Trump’s leadership in responding to his State of the Union address, delivered Tuesday, Feb. 24.
“President Trump’s address celebrated the 250th anniversary of our great nation and highlighted people and policies that make our country better and stronger,” U.S. Sen. John Hoeven said in releasing a statement late Tuesday.
“The president showed the real impact of the tax relief we passed last year in enabling Americans to keep more of their hard-earned dollars and our continued work to make life more affordable for families across the nation. That includes supporting our farmers and ranchers to ensure we continue to have the highest-quality, lowest cost food supply in the nation, and unleashing energy production in North Dakota and across the nation to fuel our economy and bring down costs,” Hoeven said. “The president outlined work to make our nation safer here at home by securing our borders and stopping drug and human trafficking. Additionally, by promoting ‘peace through strength’ and supporting our men and women in uniform, we are making our nation more secure while keeping our adversaries in check.”
“The address acknowledged the tremendous feats of Americans – from gold medal winners to U.S. servicemembers to a 100-year old war veteran – and the people that make our nation great. We look forward to continuing to work with President Trump and his administration to keep our nation strong and prosperous for the next 250 years,” he added.
U.S. Sen. Kevin Cramer said he was impressed and pleased with the president’s message.

“He articulated the victories of the last year,” Cramer said, citing the president’s talk about the growth of American oil production, energy dominance and bringing down both gas prices and prescription drug prices.
“I just thought he was fantastic, reminding us, helping us to believe that this is the Golden Age of America,” he said.
Cramer said he also appreciated the president’s reminder of how overrun the nation was by illegal alien criminals and the havoc wreaked, especially in sanctuary cities.
“I just thought it was really good for him to remind us of how awful it was and then remind us of how good it is now with a border that’s not only no longer wide open, but it’s completely closed,” Cramer said.
Cramer embraced Trump’s announcement of a war on fraud program.

“People intuitively know that the government has gotten so big we just sort of bleed money with fraudulent expenditures and being ripped off and we just sort of tolerate it because I think because it’s other people’s money. And, of course, we’ve put clamps on a lot of that, particularly in Medicaid, as well as in SNAP programs. Now he’s going after some of these programs that have been revealed in Minnesota – that the Minnesota governor and the state have been defrauding the federal taxpayers of billions of dollars with social programs,” he said.
“Then to talk about those economic victories, the lowering of everybody’s taxes, the growth of our economy, the productivity of the economy, no taxes on tips, no taxes on overtime, the reduction for seniors in taxes. (It was) good news all the way around. I think it’s important every now and then to remind people where we’ve been and where we are, and then he, of course, carved out a vision for where we’re going, all in the context of the 250th anniversary of our great nation,” he said.
“He took some jabs at Democrats, but they had it coming, for sure,” Cramer added. “He took some jabs out of it, but he was also, again, well-restrained. … I frankly think it was his best State of the Union yet.”
“President Trump made the case that America is stronger, safer and more prosperous when we lead with common sense,” Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak said. “His focus on securing the border, unleashing American energy, delivering tax relief for everyday people and restoring peace through strength has delivered our country from a vulnerable place. This is exactly why North Dakotans voted for him in huge numbers. What I appreciated most about the president’s speech was his spotlight on so many American heroes, including the brave men and women in uniform who have protected our freedoms at great personal costs. Attending this historic event is an honor and I look forward to advancing our conservative agenda to make life better for North Dakotans.”
North Dakota Gov. Kelly Armstrong issued a statement, saying, “From border security and tax relief to cutting costs for consumers and energizing the economy, President Trump made a strong case that his America First agenda is delivering for North Dakota and the country as a whole. We feed and fuel the world better than anyone, and the president’s continued focus on unleashing U.S. energy and slashing unnecessary regulations and red tape have the potential to lead our state and nation into a new era of prosperity.”

North Dakota Democratic-NPL Communications Director Laura Dronen said the Trump administration has left a trail of broken promises to the American people.
“We heard no plan to repay Americans the $170 billion in tariffs that Trump illegally collected. We heard no plan to address the self-inflicted healthcare crisis. We heard no plan to bring justice for the Epstein survivors,” she said. “There’s a better way forward. Across our state and across our country, people are stepping up to run for office to counter the wake of destruction this administration has left. For the next 250 days, we’ll do everything we can to elect folks up and down the ballot who will stand with and fight for hard-working North Dakotans.”
