Surrey School District seeks feedback on facility improvements

SURREY — The Surrey School District has announced a community meeting will be held next week to gather public feedback on urgent school facility needs.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Surrey Public School.

According to district officials, the meeting is being held to address a recent determination by the North Dakota Fire Marshal that portions of the school’s portable classroom connections do not meet current fire safety codes. The portable classrooms were installed in 2012 as a temporary solution, but are now nearing the end of their useful life and are located too close to the main school building.

District officials emphasized that community priorities will guide the district’s final decision.

According to the district’s business manager, a survey will be sent through the mail to all Surrey taxpayers. The survey will be overseen by independent research firm School Perceptions, and will be available online and by paper. The results of the survey will be shared publicly at a future school board meeting.

Residents seeking additional information or help completing the survey are invited to contact the district office at 838-1262.

Starting at $2.99/week.
