The Minot North girls basketball team took to the court on Tuesday night, Feb. 17, for the last time this season. The Sentinels were facing off against the Jamestown Blue Jays, and for senior Kinzy Welstad, it was her last time on the Minot North court for a game as a Sentinel.

Tuesday night was Senior Night for the Sentinels, and Welstad is the team’s only senior, and the team dedicated the night to her.

Tuesday’s game started out tough for the Sentinels. The Blue Jays took the lead early and kept it through the entirety of the first half, earning 27 points before the Sentinels hit double digits. By the time halftime rolled around, the Blue Jays were up by 21 points at 16-44. Sophomore Elli Laskowski led the Sentinels in scoring at the end of the first half with five, followed by eighth-grade Cambree Phillips with four and two points from Welstad.

The second half was much the same for both teams. The Sentinels were unable to keep up with the Blue Jays, ending with their loss against Jamestown at 43-97. Elli Laskowski finished Tuesday night’s game as the lead scorer for the Sentinels with 18 points followed by Welstad with eight.

Though the Sentinels dropped in their record on the season to 4-15 after the game, the girls took the time to gather their friends and family in the Minot North commons to celebrate Welstad and everything she had done for the team.

Starting at $2.99/week.
