Respiratory illness low to moderate in ND
The most current respiratory illness summary from the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services shows influenza and COVID-19 activity levels were classified as moderate, while RSV activity remained low, for the week ending Saturday, Feb. 21.
The summary shows influenza and COVID-19 cases declining in North Dakota, while RSV saw a slight increase. All data are preliminary. The respiratory season is defined as Aug. 1, 2025, through July 31, 2026.
The state reported 322 influenza cases, a decrease from the prior week, along with 228 COVID-19 cases, also down from the previous week. RSV totaled 92 cases, reflecting a slight increase. Seasonal totals now stand at 9,548 influenza cases, 4,500 COVID-19 cases and 557 RSV cases.
Weekly hospitalizations included 22 influenza admissions and 30 COVID-19 admissions, both decreases from the prior week. RSV hospitalizations totaled 15, a slight increase. For the season, North Dakota has recorded 838 influenza hospitalizations, 582 COVID-19 hospitalizations and 96 RSV hospitalizations.
Test positivity rates were 10.94% for influenza, down from the previous week; 9.55% for COVID-19, up from the prior week; and 8.28% for RSV, also up from the previous week. Overall test positivity in North Dakota was 26.42%, an increase from the prior week.
Influenza-like illness activity accounted for 1.54% of outpatient visits statewide, a slight increase.
