January moisture, snowfall below long-term average
This past month of January the moisture and snowfall recorded at the North Central Research Extension Center, south of Minot, was below long-term averages, according to Austin Kraklau of the research extension center.
“The total moisture for the month was 0.23 inches, which is 0.32 inches below the long-term average of 0.55 inches,” Kraklau said.
He said the total snowfall for the month was 2.2 inches, which is 4.8 inches below the long-term average of 7.0 inches.
January had an average temperature of 10.6 degrees, which is 2.8 degrees above the 119-year, long-term average of 7.8 degrees, Kraklau said.
He said the lowest temperature of the month was -25 degrees, which occurred on Jan. 25, and the high was 41 degrees on Jan. 13.
