Arrest made at Minot AFB for alleged threatening statements
MINOT AIR FORCE BASE – An individual was arrested at Minot Air Force Base on Monday, Feb. 2, for alleged threatening remarks, according to information from the Ward County Sheriff’s Department.
According to Capt. Jason Kraft with the Sheriff’s Department, a report was received regarding the alleged concerning remarks made by a citizen threatening bombs and a threat to schools. The threats were not directed at Minot AFB specifically, according to a statement from Minot AFB.
Deputies attempted to locate the individual connected to the remarks, and learned the person was traveling to the base. Minot AFB was informed and asked to stop the individual at the gate if they arrived, and the individual was detained until deputies arrived.
“The incident remains under investigation, however at this time no weapons were discovered on the individual and there is no active threat to the Minot Air Force Base schools,” Kraft’s statement concluded.
Minot AFB also released a statement dispelling rumors that an active shooter incident was in progress on the base, but that security forces implemented increased security measures and security sweeps were conducted as a precautionary measure.
