Three businesses cited for failing tobacco compliance

The Minot Police Department has announced the outcome of January’s tobacco compliance checks, which resulted in three citations against businesses for failing to ensure.

According to the Minot Police Department, 50 of the 53 establishments passed the random checks throughout January, while three were cited for their first offenses in a 12 month period.

Tobacco compliance failures are typically rare, according to the Minot Police Department.

Clerks who fail compliance checks can be fined $50 for a first offense, $150 for a second and $300 for any further violations. Businesses are given a $100 fine for first offenses, seven day tobacco license suspension for a second, 30-day suspension for a third and a one year suspension for a fourth.
