KEENE – A produced water spill occurred at the Jellesed SWD 1 site, about 6 miles east of Keene, Sunday, Jan. 25.

Produced water is a byproduct of oil and gas extraction.

McKenzie Energy Partners, LLC, notified the North Dakota Oil and Gas Division of the spill. The company reported 92,400 gallons of produced water were released onto the location. As of Monday, Jan. 26, 91,770 gallons have been recovered.

A N.D. Oil and Gas inspector has been to the location and will monitor any additional cleanup required.

Federal and state laws require operators to report the spillage of any materials that may pollute water, air or soil.
