Minot firefighters safely removed the occupant of an apartment during a fire Tuesday, Jan. 27.
The Minot Fire Department responded at 11:34 a.m. to the report of a fire at a four-unit apartment building in the 1800 block of Fifth Street Southeast, according to fire department information.
Initial reports indicated a fire with one occupant inside the apartment who stated she was unable to extinguish the fire. As crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy black smoke visible from the structure. Firefighters immediately began search efforts to remove the occupant from the apartment. Other tenants from the remaining units were safely outside the building when firefighters arrived.
The fire was extinguished and contained to the unit of origin, preventing extension to the adjacent apartments. Search crews conducted a secondary search of the building and confirmed there were no additional occupants inside.
The occupant was safely removed and transported to a Minot hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation injuries. No firefighters sustained injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
