FORT TOTTEN — Fort Totten State Historic Site will host “Make Your Own Ice Fishing Rod” on Saturday, Jan. 10, from 1-3 p.m.

The hands-on experience offers a fun and creative way to introduce children to ice fishing, a popular winter tradition in the Devils Lake area, according to State Historical Society of North Dakota information.

During the free, family-friendly program, participants can construct a simple ice fishing rod using common materials and take it home ready to use. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served.

This event is part of the ND250 commemoration celebrating the nation’s 250th birthday this year.
