Leeds man dies in two-vehicle crash

LEEDS – A 72-year-old Leeds man died in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 2, about six miles east of Leeds, Monday, Jan. 12.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by the Leeds man, was traveling west on the highway. A 2007 International semi, driven by a 34-year-old man from Fessenden and pulling a trailer loaded with corn, entered westbound Highway 2 from Highway 281. The semi was accelerating after making the turn. The front of the Chevrolet struck the rear of the loaded trailer. The driver of the Chevrolet was severely injured and transported to a Devils Lake hospital, where he died. The driver of the semi was not injured.

The driver of the pickup was not wearing a seat belt and the driver of the semi was wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation by the N.D. Highway Patrol.
