Barley, corn growers to hold elections

Barley and corn growers in Ward County are being urged to participate in the elections of a county representative for the North Dakota Barley Council and a county representative for the North Dakota Corn Utilization Council.

All barley growers have a definite interest in the membership of the N.D. Barley Council and all corn growers have a definite interest in the membership of the N.D. Corn Utilization Council, and are encouraged to participate in the elections.

Both elections will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 3 p.m. at the Grand Hotel, 1505 N. Broadway, in Minot. The elections will immediately follow the Best of the Best meeting.

Barley

Each person, landlord, tenant, husband and/or wife, who planted barley in 2025 or intends to plant barley in 2026 and who has not claimed any barley tax refund within the past year (except for duplicate payments), if present in person, is entitled to vote and is eligible to be a candidate.

Corn

A voting producer is a person who plants, or causes to be planted a corn crop in which the person has an ownership interest, with the intent that upon maturity the crop will be harvested in the next available or immediately preceding growing season. Producers have to reside in Ward County, and have not requested a corn refund during the preceding year.

The elections will be conducted under the supervision of Paige Brummund, Extension agent with NDSU Extension-Ward County.

Newly elected county barley representatives from District 5 will assemble in the future to elect the district’s member to the N.D. Barley Council. Newly elected county barley representatives will be notified in the future with district election details.

The N.D. Barley Council was created in 1983 by legislative enactment to facilitate the production, development, marketing and promotion of barley.

Newly elected county corn representatives from District 3 will assemble in the future to elect the district’s member of the N.D. Corn Utilization Council. Newly elected county corn representatives will be notified in the future with district election details.
