Tis the season for outdoor skating

Community takes to the ice this winter

Ice skaters have been taking advantage of Minot’s outdoor rinks recently due to favorable weather and schools on holiday break.

Minot Parks opened its warming houses Tuesday, Dec. 23, and announced its holiday schedule. Upcoming warming house openings are noon-9 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 29, and Friday, Jan. 2, and 4-9 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 19.

Regular nonholiday hours are:

– Mondays, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays, 4-9 p.m.

– Saturdays and Sundays, noon-9 p.m.

Minot Parks operates outdoor rinks at Roosevelt School, 619 9th St. NE, and at Polaris Park, 712 26th Ave. NW, for hockey and leisure skating. The park district also lists its rink at Perkett School, 2000 5th Ave. SW, for hockey priority, and the Corbett ballpark rink, 600 13th St. SE, for leisure skating priority.

Citizens Alley in downtown Minot also offers outdoor leisure ice skating and ice bumper cars. Leisure skating is available most days from 8 a.m.-8 p.m., according to Citizens Alley’s schedule information.

Bumper cars must be booked in advance. The rink offers skate rentals and stackable pusher bars. Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota Caring Foundation is covering skate rental costs through Dec. 30 and again from Jan. 2-4 from noon-4 p.m.
